scheduled for surgery in june

Recommended Posts

Hi! I've scheduled my lap band surgery for june 9. i'm excited, but i'm also worried about the liquid diet that follows for two weeks. Is it really difficult to get through those two weeks? any suggestions or comments?

also, can you go swimming after surgery? I'm a big swimmer and i own a small cabin on a lake in michigan, and i want to be able to swim.

does anybody know of any restrictions?

hope to hear from some of you.

thanks.

All I can say is the rapid weight loss that I experienced in the 2 weeks pre and post op outweighed (no pun intended) the hunger and want to eat. I also believe, although not diagnosed with depression, that I was depressed before. Your confidence and happiness will really start to shine through once you see that scale get lower and lower. My bet is that you will be feeling better. The 2 weeks really goes by so quickly and just remember what you have to look forward to.

Hi Jillia --

I have my procedure scheduled for June 9th as well:clap2:

I'm not sure about swimming after surgery. They may need your wounds to heal first to prevent any bacteria from infecting them. Ask your doc.

As for the liquid diet --I am sure you will do just fine! Besides, from what I've read, most people do not have much of an appetite right after surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
