When Did You Feel "normal" Again After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

This has been something I have wondered. If I have surgery on a Thursday what are the odds I would be able to go back the next Tuesday. I'm an office manager at a medical practice so it won't be strenuous.

I was banded last Wednesday, I'm heading back to work tomorrow (Monday). I feel fine, my job is not strenuous, my shoulder pain has just about disappeared and I won't be overdoing it. If I didn't feel good then I'd take a couple of more days off, but to tell you the truth, I'm getting bored here at home.

I felt normal going into the 3rd week of recovery. I started taking walks, usually 1hr or so at that time too. I have a physically demanding job & was forced to take 6 wks off after surgery. I felt as though I could've went back to work & handled all the physical demands of my job going in to week 4 but my surgeon wouldn't release me back to full duty. My hubby had gastric sleeve surgery & was off for only a week. He's an accountant, so he just sits behind the desk. For the first couple days he left a little early but quickly got back in to the groove. Best of luck! :)

Thanks so much everyone! I'm four days post-op now and already feeling much better. I'll go back to work Wednesday or Thursday so I'm sure I'll feel even better by then at this rate.

Hi all! I was banned this Wednesday so I'm three days post-op. I'm feeling better but still have odd things going on. It still Hurts when I sneeze and its hard to get my fluids and Protein in. Every sip starts with the painful burping.

How long did it take for the weird feelings and pains to go away? I want to start walking on the treadmill but there's no way I'm ready. I also need to go back to work after a week and I can't be sitting in upper management meetings burping!

Thanks!

Hi there! I was also banded on Wednesday. I am planning to return to work in the morning. With the exception of some discomfort on my left side, I am feeling pretty good. I walk every day and count Proteins. I feel that as long as I feel this good I may as well give it a try. Only problem I am having is getting the required amount of Water in. I hear it does make a difference in how you feel.

The Water is hard. Carry a glass with you wherever you go. Flavor it if you need to. I still have a glass with me at all times. Everyone I work with is used to it now. My husband says, you taking that in the store? I say yes!

One week almost normal' date='maybe 80 percent. 100 by two weeks;)[/quote']

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site. I just got my LapBand, last Tuesday. I did have gas in my stomach and my left shoulder, and the burping. I was told by a friend who was banded a year ago to get my Gas X Strips. They really work! Just put one on your tongue and it dissolves quick, no nasty after taste. And no more burping. Try them they will help.

Surgery November 19th, I went back to work, daycare, 8 days later and felt fine, until a baby kicked my at my port. Hurt like hell but I was fine.

It took me three Weeks to feel normal though. I do, however, still have excessive burping and gas and I hurt if I don't eat.

Hold luck to you in your journey.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
