How Did You Decide On Lap Band Versus Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I chose the band for the same reasons many responders said but here us a chart that compares band sleeve and bypass. I found it very informative and unbiased .I know the decision is hard no matter which one u choose. Good luck !!

no matter which surgery one gets, unless a change in lifestyle happens, any WLS can not be successful... sure the bypass, the sleeve, the ds can make one lose faster but after about 2 yrs, the bands loss ratio can catch up (from my surgeon) weight loss wise..

so which ever WLS one decides to get, you must eat better foods, exercise, go into it with a positive (want to) attitude and a good support unit, you will do fine. if one goes in for the quick fix, wont change their attitude and doesnt adhere to the suggestions from the surgeon and nutritionist, then some will stay right where they are (blaming everything and everyone but themselves). i can say this because this was me not that long ago.

i did not want my insides cut so i chose the band. because of my high bmi, the dr felt the bypass would be better....but i was told what changes i had to make in order to succeed and i am doing it...its not easy but it can be done, if you want it bad enough.

all the best luck on whatever you choose.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
