2Nd Fill Today, Plz Give Your Advice As The Nurse Really Couldn't.

Recommended Posts

So today, I had my 2nd fill. Prior to today, I was at 4.5cc which sounds normal. 2.5cc at surgery, 2cc added on first fill five weeks ago. I told the nurse for the last three weeks, I had issues keeping food down occasionally.

During the fill, she extracted the saline and found 7cc in my band. She said omg you shouldn't have 7cc at this point. I said the doctor said 4.5 and now you say 7cc, and yep it was, she showed me. I only got .5cc today.

Anyone had this happen? I thought 7cc would be close to my sweet spot in a 10 cc band, but it's not even close this past month. She did confirm, that's why I had issues keeping food down, as I was way to tight, but just got thought in on my own.

Idk, I just can't understand how a mistake was made like this. I have 2.5 cc left only now, will this ever work? I'm not losing hardly any weight. I count everything, walk 30 miles a week, Zumba. I'm not asking to lose 20lbs a month, but heck, 5lbs would be nice with all this work in 2 months.

How many calories a day are you eating?

I'm eating 1100 to 1200 a day. Protein is between 80 / 100 a day. Carbs under 40.

Here are some examples of food weekly...

tuna

Sardines

Boiled chicken 3oz to 4oz

Egg salad

Lamb kabobs

chicken mostly grilled, broiled

Laura leans beef

Turkey meatballs

Breakfast and in between dinner, I drank a Protein shake. 30 gr Protein, 3 g. Carbs, 1 gram sugar. Twice a day.

Idk what I'm doing wrong...

Hello, I can sympathize with your issues My surgeon questioned me on having 3cc's in me. He felt it was too much. I don't understand this. When I asked him what I had before this fill he didn't know. I was like what the heck!!!! I just posted my horror story I have been going through and it may lead to my band being removed after almost 3 years. I have no trust left in him. For now on, bring a note book and you keep track of your cc's. At least you will know then and you can tell them. Sorry to tell you but it goes on more often than you know. Its in and out the door with most surgeons. I am giving my doctor 3 options. Either run a test and make sure there are no leaks, no flips or slips, go to a different surgeon or get the band removed. I have a ot of post operative pain (five months into it) and he just doesn't care. Pain is pain and its interferring with my life. So speak up and keep track of your own cc's. That is what I am going to do if I keep the band....wish I had better news for you.

Yeah exactly, but it's odd, I watched the doctor fill the needle on my first fill and he actually had to remove .5 as I could not swallow the thick juice they give you.

Thanks for your reply... I love my band and still hope for some results soon.

I will keep track for sure. Awww sorry to hear your having pain. I felt I tore something two weeks ago in my side, they didn't seem to think it was an issue, even though I have pain near where the band is located.

Sorry to hear about the issues you have been having. It is unfortunate that they made the mistake; however, my doctor doesn't even tell me what he is putting in (though, he would tell me if I asked). Essentially, he feels that the # of cc's is irrelevant. People like to compare to each other, etc and what works for one doesn't work for another. My sweet spot may be at 2 cc's and someone else may be at 8 cc. It is all relative to the person. He wants me to focus on how I am feeling and not what cc is in the band.

As for your eating, what you mentioned sounds good. Just (as you mentioned too) make sure you are tracking. Sometimes we think we are following the guidelines and not realizing what we are actually doing. Also, if you are eating high sodium/processed foods, you may be retaining Water.

Good luck to you.

When I went for my first fill the nurse told me that during surgery they fill the band to make sure everything is okay and then they take it out, however there is usually between 1-3cc's left in from surgery (not deliberate). My first fill she pulled everything out to see how much was left, and then we started from there. Wonder if you had some in your band and then they added more during surgery.

Don't worry about getting your fills slow and steady, according to my clinic, we would rather creep up on our sweet spot than blow right past it and have the problems associated with that. Having said that, I am frustrated at the 1 cc per fill, but it is what it is...........

I just saw some of your food choices, my thoughts are that you are drinking too much of your Protein and probably should be eating more.........at least cut out one of those shakes.

So sorry about your problems.

i JUST GOT MY SECOND ALSO, i AM at 6.5 cc...everyone is different, do not let ppl tell you how much you should have and shouldn't.../a gentleman at our doc office lost 145 on 2 cc, so?? I noticed the tightness, expecially in the AM. If you had 7 cc were you full? If so, why go in for a fill?regardless of the amount in your band, do it until it fits you. Someone else green zone could be 9 or 3 cc

This statement couldn't be more accurate. My doctor questioned me at 3cc's. He thought it was too much. I have had my band since Jan. 2010 and things were going great until June this year when my port flipped. I had surgery to correct it and been down hill since. I have a lot of pain in my port area 5 month later and gaining most my weight back. Does he not see the pattern. I think I have a leak. Every fill I became a pin cushion. I think they inserted that needle in my tube. Why else could I eat a bagel the next day after a fill. I should never have too!! I just want to be able to tell him what I can eat without any problems. Something is not right and I don't know how they can test it to see if there are leaks. Under fluroscopy? 5 months of frustration and confusion and actually depressed. I don't want to throw in the towel but i have to pay fo these fills and its getting old. Come Dec.21st. my husband is even going with me because he is even getting tired of it. I finally thought I had this obesity thing under control, nothing more depressing when you start to lose weight and boom, a minor surgery turns everything around. I did take a fall at a grocery store in Aug. I just want the band tested for peace of mind. If everything is ok, then I guess an extra fill or take it out. Has anyone gone through this at all.. A very disappointed lap band patient...or maybe seek the advice of another surgeon. I am so confused.....

One thing I have learned is you have to keep track of your fills and whats in them and not...I asked my surgeon what was in it before and he said, "I don't know". Isn't that just great!! Lots of confidence in him...I am looking for my green zone and can't find it because I have a leak or my doc thinks 3 cc's is to much. Like most banders say, the green zone and cc's is different then others. The doctors are just not listening....Its not like a gallbladder removal. If this is a life time commitment for me then this my case should be a life time commitment for him....I don't think I could state it any better then that.....

i am not physically able to walk 30 miles a week (yet) or zumba nor do i have any fills (yet)......please be thankful/grateful that you are able to do this.

i read your post and wanted to be able to do even alittle bit of what you are.

it may seem like you are not losing per the scale, but by being active and being healthier then you were leads me to believe you are doing just fine. just because the scale doesnt show a loss, it does not mean you are not losing.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
