I met with the surgeon almost two weeks ago. He scheduled me an appointment to come back on Dec. 12th. Any ideas what I will do that day? Do you wait for insurance approval before you start testing? Or, do you do the testing first? Do you think he is trying to get insurance approval before I return on that day? I feel so stupid. I like to know what I am doing, but really feel in the dark. Thanks for any advice anyone can give.....

I had the same thing.. well, what did he say top you during your first appt? They should have given you something with everything you will need to do such as, medical of necessity you need from your primary Dr. blood work done from your primary, a psych evaluation, and a schedule an appt. with a nutritionist/dietian. should have pricing and all that? I had that done.. Just a "this is everything you need to be sent to your insurance".

After meeting with my surgeon at a seminar , I then had an appt and they had all my insurance info and what my insurance needed me to do before final approval. They weighed and measured me and discussed how everything works. They had my schedule and I was told step by step what I needed to do.

You could always call the office and ask the office what that visit is for. I am sure you are not the first, nor the last, that would do so. It may help set your mind at ease.

Your insurance may require monthly appointments with your surgeon. Mine experience was similar in that I met with him in August and then went back in September a few weeks later to check-in even though I had all the other appointments to complete (endo, psych, sleep study, nutrition). Surgery is December 12!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
