Guidance Needed

Recommended Posts

I had a surgery on 10th Nov 2012. In first two weeks, i lost 7 kgs and now its my third week and ive started noticing that im not losing any weight. I am bit afraid and confused coz my friend told me that for almost 2 months i will lose alot weight and after that it will slow down a bit where as in my case, im not losing weight right after two weeks. Is this normal?? Will i be able to lose more weight?

Everyone loses weight at their own rate, so don't compare yourself to your friend or anyone else.

You just had surgery 15 days ago. Losing 7kgs (15 pounds) in 15 days is a lot. The average is 1-2 pounds a week so you are losing MUCH faster than most doctors expect you to.

Be patient. You didn't gain all this weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight, either.

Best wishes.

Not sure where your friend got her informaiton but you should be getting info from your dr. For the first 6 weeks you are healing and shouldn't be fretting about weight loss. Then, once you start eating regular foods, you need to sick to the portions your dr. has recommended, as it is likely your band is not even working yet. Until you get enough fills that you have good restriction, meaning you can eat a cup of food and it will hold you for 4hrs before getting hungry again and are making good choices, you probably won't lose much. Until you reach your 'sweet spot', you are pretty much just following a strict diet right now. So yes, it is perfectly normal and eventually you will be losing consistantly. I was banded on Sept 17th and have no restriction. I am trying to keep to 1200 calories a day and 1c of food per meal. It is hard.

How about when it doesn't work at all? I had it done three years ago. At first I lost about 12 pounds and then it just stopped. I'm not cheating, can't eat bread of any kind (gets stuck) don't eat carbs or drink soda. Basically eat soft meat and vegetables and go to the gym three times a week. The Dr doesn't want to see me because I'm not a success story, says I must be cheating. They said it didn't work for everyone I just never thought I'd be the one. (I've had 3 fills). It's devestating.

Your not even suppose to worry about weight loss while your healing. You have a 4-6 wk for healing. Don't focus on your weight loss yet, it will come. Like they said above also told by my doc, you normally lose 1-2 lbs a week. Your doing great!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
