Weird Port Issues...

Recommended Posts

My port is in a very inconvenient place for me since losing weight. It's right at the bend in my waist and where my pants reach. I've been able to feel it kind of move around and tilt since surgery, but nothing major and no pain, just a weird feeling. I asked the PA about it and she says it's normal. Basically, as long as I can feel it then it's where it's supposed to be. About a week ago I dropped something off the couch and leaned forward to pick it up. I felt a really weird pulling and sat up quickly. Since then I have had a small muscle pain in that side; more like soreness. I can still feel the port and it seems normal. Could I have just bruised a muscle maybe? I'm not scheduled to go in and see my doc til April, of course I could go sooner if I wanted, but it's an hour away and, otherwise, I'm great! Should I just give it a week or so and see if it subsides and then call? It's not constant or severe. What do you think? Have any of you had a similar experience?

You might of just pulled a muscle. If it doesn't feel better soon I would call your doctor.

Be very careful, with this one. Just because you can feel the port does not mean it where it's supposed to be. For example I had surgery on aug 20 and had no issues with surgery. 6 weeks later after going to the surgeon for my first fill my port flipped. I could feel my port and to me didn't have any kind of pain or weirdness to think it had. Not trying to freak you out but you should jut go to your family doctor and ask for an X-ray to make sure it's where it needs to be. And of its just a muscle then great but I'd rather know sooner than later.

I am having same issues. Weeks after my surgery I had these weird pains like pulling or like a bad muscle strain. I couldn't sleep on my sides. Now after 6 months its much better but still get sharp pains when I bend or when pants are alittle tight. Hurts in mid section if stomach. My last fill the doctor had a hard time with finding port. Finally he got it but days after I got this bruise and I'm having pains again below where port area is. I'm getting worried. Maybe I should be asking for a X-ray?

Yeah, it sounds like we both should be. =/ We knew about 50lbs ago that my port had tilted forward. They said it was due to the weight loss and it was no big deal, but I think I'm going to get mine checked as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
