Am I Eating Too Much?

I just had my surgery November eighth and I'm in the mushy stage, should I be measuring what I eat?

I feel kind of bloated before I even start to eat, so I'll eat a little bit but the feeling don't change. Like tonight I ate a little bit of mash potatoes , it was around a 1/4 of a cup. I could have ate more but I was scared I was eating too much already

  • Work on less starchy veggies first. Eggs for protein! Cottage cheese for protein!

It'll get easier as you go, the bloated icky feeling is normal. Definitely start measuring your food now. No more than 1 cup of food total per meal. Right now you likely won't be able to finish it

  • I agree with Missy, 1 cup max, and no more than 20 minutes eating!

Mashed potatoes and ricotta cheese were my 2 favorite mushy foods. I couldnt eat no more than a 1/4 of cup of food per meal during this stage anyway' date=' I guess that was a good thing.[/quote']

So the ricotta cheese is considered your Protein right?

I think so Ladymarshall.

I am 4 years out and still eat mushy foods with lots of protein. For lunch I love tuna or chicken inthe can with tuna and a little mayo. Holds me from noon until dinner at 6:00 pm. Breakfast I am not too hungry so might have yogurt cup or SF pudding and maybe for snack have a piece of cheese with turkey cold cut. I have been trying different things because even though I am to goal, I would like to get another 5 or 10 pounds off but I am not going to starve myself to get it done. I am happy at my 10-12 pants and if it comes off fine, but I am not going to sweat it. I still have a hard time with dry foods, especially hamburg or pork. No bread or sugar for me! I guess things in moderation is the key if you can get everything down. Good luck and you will be just fine.

Wow, I was banded on the 9th and am on liquids for 2 weeks, no mushies for me until the day after Thanksgiving!

I am a little surprised that your surgeon moved you to mushy so fast, too! But, if you mix your protein in the blender, you can make it the consistency of mashed potatoes. Stay away from starches as much as possible. If you are still bloated, you might have moved to the mushy stage too soon. By the way, for you folks still in liquid stage, I had hot and sour soup from my Chinese restaurant. It was excellent and makes the missing food feelings go away. Best wishes, Karen

Yes, I would also mix unflavored Protein powder in it as well. That goes for cottage cheese too (2%)

I would also put a dollop of ricotta cheese in my tomato soup or I would put a little sauce on it with a little parmasagne cheese and put it the microwave. Believe me I became very creative during the mushy stages, LOL.

I guess every doctor is different, mine started me on mushies on day 5

2 weeks??? I would surely have slit my own throat if my surgeon had told me to do that! I was on thin liquids for 48 hours, then full liquids (thick Soups, etc. no bumps) for 3 days, then mushies, then soft foods by the time I had my 1-week checkup. I know every surgeon is different, but boy howdy, I feel for you!

I was banded Nov 2nd and Currently I'm in the mushy stage and I need some help. Sometimes I'm stuck on what to eat. Any suggestions for me. What kind of unflavored protein do yall recommend?

Roxie1705, go to my lapband.com and sign up its free, plus they have a lot of good free stuff also. There's a section on recipes, click on that and you will be amazed how many recipes that's available to you, made just for bandies. I hope that helps.

I measure meats after they are cooked. Same with veggies and stuff. Make sure it's measured after it's cooked and before it's blended.

The rule of thumb that I was told was no more than a cup of food per meal, but then I was told 3 oz of Protein, with 1/2 cup of veggies and 1/2 cup of fruit if still hungry. I rarely get to my fruit and if I do it's a spoonful or two.

I was going to say teh same thing. I was banded on the 6th and I am on liquids for 2 weeks after. I was suprised when I heard you were already on mushy foods.

Does anyone know of a great unflavored protein to add to recipes?

powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder OR Now Sports Unflavored Protein Powder.

Unjury you will find on their website and NOW sports you can buy on Amazon. I have both and both are great and mix very well in food/drinks
