Next Step: Mushies. What Are Your Favorites?

Recommended Posts

Hello friends,

I was banded October 29th, and tomorrow marks two weeks post-op. Everything is going very well so far, and I have one more week of Protein shakes. As you can tell, I'm very much looking forward to some texture and flavor! I'd love to hear from you on what your favorite mushies are, which provide the most satiety and key tips for moving into this phase.

Thank you! :)

I did really well with tuna, cottage cheese, applesauce, mashed potatoes hummus, scrambled eggs and ground turkey. Even on the mushies stage I measured and made sure to eat no more than 3-4 oz of Protein, 1/4 c starch and 1/2 c veggies. I wasn't big on the mushie veggies so I drank 8oz of low sodium v-8 juice usually split between morning and afternoon.

P.S. Chew everything. Just cause it is mushy doesn't mean you don need to chew!

Wow I'm on mushies, and I'm not allowed mashed potatoes or ground meat. Boo for me!

I have been eating a lot of scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, oatmeal. I do pureed chicken and salmon at dinner, but...yuck!

My favourite mushy vegetable is peas. They're actually good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
