Doc's Goal- Just Eight Pounds To Go...

Recommended Posts

I am a low BMI Lap Bander- 5'4.5" starting my journey at 185 pounds. I lost 5 pounds during my two week pre-op diet and had surgery on December 23, 2011. While the surgeon was banding me he fixed a hiatal hernia, so the recovery was rough (I haven't had acid reflux since before my pre-op diet). Today I am down 47 pounds with 8 pounds to goal and 13 pounds to my personal goal. I didn't think I would ever wear a size 5 again and here I am wearing a size 5 with a little room in the waist. In seven weeks it will have been one year- one year with my band and in that seven weeks I don't doubt I will lose that 8 pounds.

Wow, what can I say? This has been amazing, it has hurt, I’ve been over-filled and under-filled- it has been very emotional and has taken a tremendous amount of effort and dedication. I learn more about myself everyday- learning new ways to cope with stress; really, it isn't healthy to stuff your woes down your mouth... that was the hardest lesson. All that said I wouldn't take a single day or moment back. Today's reward was a call to a well-known reconstructive surgeon, I want my high school gymnast flat belly and perky boobies back. I lost them somewhere along the way. ;)

That is great I lost 85 lbs. I had my surgery May 2011. I am 5'9'' and now weigh about 155. I am at goal and my Dr. is very proud of me. He said I need to maintain and not lose anymore. I mostly wear size 8. That is what I wore before I gained my weight' My meds caused me to gain and I couldn't lose it. I got to come off most of my meds and I am doing great. I am so happy to be small again. I didn't like all that extra weight. I had been skinny all my life. I feel so much better and I have more energy. You will lose the last 8lbs. easy. Good Luck! Cloudy

It doesn't matter where you start, just where you end up. If you are happier and healthier, you've made it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
