My eyes are OPEN

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Kelly this is my very first post:clap2: . I have been researching WLS for years. I'm 31 happily married (no children).I know that I want WLS and always thought the open RNY was what I wanted, But yesterday I met with my surgeon for the first time, I let him know all about me,and I let him know that in the future I want children,he instantly stopped talking about the RNY and with his professinal opinion told me I should have the Lapraroscopic Adjustable Lap Band, I never thought that was an option for me, so now I'm just doing as much research about this as I can, and truthfully so far it sounds sooooooo much safer and all around better than the RNY, any help with my research would be greatly appreciated. :help:

Thank you

Hi Kelly - and welcome to LapBandTalk.com

My only suggestion is to check with your insurance comp. to see of the LapBand is covered (if you are NOT paying cash). A LOT of insurances pay for RnY, but not the band. Hopefully yours will

Good luck!

Hi Kelly, welcome to LBT!!

How interesting to hear a doctor suggest banding so strongly over RNY. Did he give you information as to why he preferred the band for you? Pregnancy is indeed possible after RNY. I agree with his assessment, naturally, but I'd be interested to hear if he gave you reasons.

Poke around, there's lots of information here. And feel free to ask whatever questions you need to!

I never thought that was an option for me
You've tapped my curiosity -- why would you think it not an option for you?

Thank you for everyones support,:)

I never thought the lap-band was for me, because I always thougt it was for smaller (chubby) people, not me:rolleyes: , But my surgeon says it would be the best thing for me,especially when I told him I wanted a baby in a few years.

Awww! Grats Kelly, I remember well that feeling of hope that surges through you when you first find out you're going to get your band. I'm very happy for you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
