Hello all!

I have never been on a forum before. I recently got married and was looking through wedding photos and needless to say I was upset. I was nowhere near the weight I wanted to be on my wedding day. I am 20 years old with a BMI of 45 and a weight of 300. I need any and all advice on the lap band. I have tried everything under the sun to lose weight. I was a rugby player on my varsity team in high shool and even conditioning 4 days a week I was still heavier set. My husband and I want to start a family in three years after I finish my degree. Beig this weight it is physically impossible. Not only do I want to do this for my future children but also for my husband and of course myself. Anybody want to be my mentor through this journey? I look forward to hearing all of your advice!!!!

It has been a life changing, positive experience for many of us. I would urge you to find a bariatric center in your area (likely through your local hospital) and attend a seminar about it. It will provide you a lot of the information and answer questions.

Regardless what you choose to do, it will require work and commitment from you. This is a tool to aid in weightloss; however, it isn't a magic pill. You still have to be willing to make healthier food choices and exercise, etc.

Also, you may want to check with your insurance carrier to see if they cover weight loss surgery. They would be able give you that information so you know what your options are as well.

Good luck to you and I commend you for seeking help to a healthier you before having kids and before getting much older and wishing you would have done it sooner.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
