How much weight can I reasonably expect to lose once banded (in December)? I'm F, 5'6, 252. Is 152 in one year reasonable?

That might be a lofty goal... You want to weigh 100 lbs? I was 377. At one year I had

Lost about 130 lbs. I am 23 months out from my preop diet and have lost 211 lbs. I am 6 or 16 lbs from goal depending on how I feel when I get there. I am 5'9".

I understood that you want to weigh 152 in a year, right? If so, I think that's attainable. I started at 263 at the beginning of my journey. I was banded on August 7, 2012 and am currently sitting at 201. Good luck with your journey!

Yes with a lot of exercise and food monitoring. There will be weeks or even months of plateaues which can be frustrating and the less you'll have to loose as you get closer to goal the harder those few pounds will be harder to shift.

I'm trying not to say I want to loose this much weight in a year as I might be disappointed and frustrated along the way when I hit those plateaues and I've already hit a few, I'm just going to take it week to week and be happy with a loss no mater hiw big or small. Initially I wanted all my weight off in a year but don't think that's going to happen as I have so much to loose and my surgeon said up to two years is more realistic for me.

But not saying you can't do it, I hope you do.

My dr said on average they can take you down 10bmi. The rest is up to us.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
