First Fill

Recommended Posts

My first fill is on Nov 13th and I terrified for it, everything I read on here seems so scary!! What's the process like? Is it painful? I'm only 3 weeks post op as it is and still having discomfort in my port area. My doc is also 3 hrs away so that makes me nervous!!!

I think everyone is scared that first fill....this is how mine went...

nurse had me fill out a paper asking questions about my eatting..how many times a day/week/month I ate certain foods....then she weighed me ( which I had expected more of a loss) then she lead me into a lil office I sat on the table waiting for my Dr....she already had a needle and saline all set out...he came in with my paper in his hand went over it and said Ok Dee want a fill !!! and I was so ready..we talked for a lil then he asked me to lay back and pull up my shirt and down with the waistband of my streachie pants...he just did it ...and I didnt feel the needle at all.....He had me sit up....drink a lil Water as we talked some more....then I was done !!! Good Luck !

It takes about 2 to 3 fillings for you to start feeling restriction. For me it was the 2nd filling, about 6cc's. Now I'm at 7.25 and feel like its too tight. My doc is 45 mins away however, I would keep tabs as to how much he puts in each filling. After the 2nd filling, if u feel like u still need another fill, have him put in between .5 and 1cc. Once restriction begins, even the smallest amts mk a difference. Best of luck.

Hmmm ok doesn't sound too bad...he doesn't need to use an X-ray or anything to find the port opening? That's crazy!! Sounds easy enough!! After my first fill I will probably get them done closer to home but I know the surgeon wanted to see me for the first one....

My Doctor has a great hand for fills, just a tiny stick and no pain at all.

I was nervous my first time, but the second time I relaxed and it went well.

The pre and post fill Flouroscopy (SP?) takes longer than the actual fill.

My fill took about 5 mins.

My doc didn't use any numbing meds and I barely felt a thing. It feels less painful than getting blood drawn.

He put the needle in my port, filled the band and then had me drink Water till I felt in the back of my throat. Then he slowly removed some saline until I made a small burp and that's how much he filled the band. This was on friday. I still dont have full restriction but i sure do feel a difference!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
