Is 1 cup of food, 8 oz of food on a food scale? For example: 3 oz of Protein, 3 oz of veggies, 2 oz grain/starch? Or is it food that has been cut into small pieces and stuffed into a 1 cup measuring cup? Please don't tell me to ask the nutritionist at my surgeon's office. I did and her response was "meant as a guide or a rule of thumb – you don’t need to take”1 cup” too literally. You should listen to your body and stop eating when you feel full. The band helps us to feel full from less food (generally about a cup of food, volume wise)".

Please advise. Thank you!

good question. I was wondering the same thing. I took it as meaning 1 measuring cup of food.< /p>

You will get a variety of answers. I weigh my Protein 3-4 oz, then I use a measuring cup for my veggies and carbs, 1/4 cup each. I eat my protein first, then veggies, then carbs if I'm still hungry.

Typically it's a cup as in volume because it's based on the volume of food the pouch can hold

However, some things are impossible to measure in volume, like chicken breast or a pork chop. In those cases, you have to weigh it.

So if I'm having pork chops for dinner, I'll have 4 oz of pork chop, 1/4 of green Beans and 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes.

I use that as a guide, 3-4 oz Protein, and ususaly there is only room after that for 1/4 cup veggie and 1/4 cp carbs or 1/2 cup veggies. I think of it as an acutal cup not the weight 8oz.

8oz of food is not the same as volume in a measuring cup

Food has different mass and volume

A cup of pork chop weighs different than a cup of lettuce for example

A cup really is a guide ... Just stop eating when you get a sign from your band

My sign is I hic-up !

Good luck

I don't measure it by the cup. I measure 3-4 oz Protein, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 c startch for each meal. That's about a cup of food and I rarely can finish that.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
