Tap Tap....is This Thing On?

Recommended Posts

I'm also a Newbie here. My scheduled date is Nov. 1st. Excited but nervous also. I have two full weeks for the full liquid diet. Does that seem like it's the norm for a pre-op diet? Getting a little nervous about the lack of nutrients for that long! Today I even felt a little dizzy...

Oh boy! You just opened yourself for a avalanche of comments! Ha. It is common, you need your liver shrunken so surgery will be smooth. Better 3 little holes than having to be cut open. Also, I'm sure you are taking Vitamins too right? Are you on Protein shakes for two weeks? Believe it or not most of us were getting less nutrients eating everything in sight than the two weeks of liquid diet. It will be crazy hard for about three days then your body will start calming down. After all you are detoxing too.

I have been taking Vitamins for a while so that's good and 2 weeks prior to even having to do the liquid diet I cut out all sugar and bad carbs so I pretty much did the detox then when I cut out the sugar. I am on just the Protein Shakes and I'm getting used to it. It just seems so much healthier to follow a plan that some others have been recommended by their doctors which includes a lean (real) Protein in the evening, such as chicken or fish instead of all of that artificial stuff found in the Protein Drinks, but either way, I will definitely be following my surgeon's guidelines- I don't want to screw anything up!

Hi -- I am from Binghamton' date=' NY (upstate) and you are being heard! I am a newby too -- just decided to pursue band surgery last week -- waiting to hear about my consultation as we speak.

I started down this road about two years ago but decided surgery was not for me -- that I could do this by myself -- well, I couldn't. I decided I am ready for this journey and ready to make the commitment needed to be successful. Keep tapping -- people are listening![/quote']

I'm not a newbie, just recently started posting again. Banded 12/22/10.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
