First Fill

Recommended Posts

I had my band put in 9/19/12, so I'm only 3 weeks out. The first 2 weeks I lost 11 lbs, went for a check up last week and was told I was doing great, and my first fill will be nov 18. Since my appt last week I've gained 4 lbs, and feel hungry like before I had the surgery. Of course I feel the restriction of it all going down (like of not chewing fully) but I'm becoming discourage by the weight gain and length of time before my fill. Ive contemplated calling the dr and requesting an earlier fill but not sure if that's frowned upon! Any advice is welcome:)

Thanks!!

I had my first fill recently as well and I didn't notice a difference. Second fill is scheduled for Oct 30.

I haven't had a fill but going to my first post-op appointment tomorrow. I feel absolutely no different than before surgery. I've followed the post-op diet to a T but I haven't lost a pound. I'm hoping for a band fill so I can start losing weight. I also developed pneumonia 4 days post op and have been extremely sick. I'm discouraged to say the least.

I had my first fill at three weeks post op, it made a slight difference but only for a few days. My fills continued every two weeks after that. Until you get to the green zone, which will take multiple fills its going to be about willpower and Portion Control and making sure you eat your Protein first, vegetables second. Some people are luckily enough to need no fills or only a few.

It can be a lengthy process to hit the green zone but once you're there it's such a relief.

There is no harm in asking to start the fill process before November, call and discuss it with them.

Remember whip out that will power!

Now is a good time to make those bites smaller and smaller, good practice for when you have no choice but to take teeny bites.

If you haven't started exercising maybe some walking, I used to find it would help curb my hunger.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
