My husband is the only person who knows that I have made this decision. And he flipped too, when I first brought it up. Not because he doesn't want me to have the lap band, but because he is afraid of the surgery. Surgery, any surgery, carries risk --- and he is afraid that something will go wrong. Google lap band surgery problems and you get everything from Soup to nuts and then some. We have talked it to death, and while he's still not sold on the idea, he realizes that this is something I need to do and he is doing his best to be supportive. Your BF might surprise you.

In any event, I wish you the best, whatever you decide.

Sooooo, I finally broke down and told my BF. He is behind me 100% because I told him this is something I really needed and wanted. Yes he was upset that I waited 4 days before surgery but he is okay now. I feel so much better and that has gotten rid of a lot of my anxiety. Thank you guys for the online support. Even though you can't see this but I love you David!!!!!

Whew! Glad he is being supportive. I had to be careful when I presented it to my husband - I thought about it a while, then told him that this is something that I want to do for ME, and I'm not a selfish person but I need this to hopefully get to a place one day in my life that I'm comfortable in my own skin. I know men are self-conscious also, but telling him that what I saw in the mirror never made me happy, he understood.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
