Post Op Support Meeting And...

Recommended Posts

I am almost 16 weeks post op and went to a support meeting tonight and there was a person there that I knew before surgery so we talked and I asked him how many cc's he had in his band and I was shocked. We had surgery 2 weeks apart and he has 7cc's and I only have 4.75cc's. I had to have .25cc's removed last month because I kept getting things stuck and that in turn would make me throw up a lot. My question is kind of dumb I guess, why is it that he is able to handle 7cc's and still eat bread, steak, and just about anything, even scrambled eggs and when I had 5cc's I got stuck on scrambled eggs? And now I cannot eat breat, toast yes but not bread, too scared to try steak. Please someone explain to me the difference.

Thanks

Donna

Everyones body is different. I got my 1st fill last Monday and was given 5ccs, I felt nothing so the dr asked me to come back today and was given another 4ccs, now I can feel a difference. I had surgery done 9/4, it hasn't ever been a month yet and I am up to 9ccs and I'm feel just fine. No complains!

I only have 3cc and that's the residual Fluid from my surgery on 8/28 and I'm perfect i feel restriction on less than a half cup of food and I'm full for 4 to 5 hours at a time I have to set an alarm to remind myself to eat.. every person is different :)

As others have said we are all different. Depends too does he have a larger band requiring more fill than you if you have a smaller band to get to green zone? Not saying you don't buy do you take really small bites?

I have 6.5mls in my band which holds 12mls, I'm in the green zone and have decent restriction. Provided I take teeny bites and chew well I don't have a problem with any foods so far including bread and steak.

Your question is not a dumb question, the band isn't one size fits all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
