Any Lap-banders close to Springfield

Recommended Posts

Hi, I live in Springfield. My surgery was done on 2/13/06 by Dr Edwards. There have only been a few done in Springfield since then (I was the first), but I'd love to hear from some.

Hi, I live in Springfield and I have an appointment with Dr. Edwards tomorrow. I hope to have the lap band. Tough to do with the cost, but I am determined. Are you the lady who was on the TV news segment? I would love to hear your experiences prior to and after the surgery. I'm not sure I know what I am getting into. I love to eat and I love to eat lots. Always have. But, I am so sick of how I feel and look. I just can't take it anymore. The only thing that has ever worked for me is diet pills and you can't take those your whole life. Since I am paying myself I have thought about going out of town somewhere that has been doing this longer. But that seems like a big burden with all the appointments and fills. Plus I would have to take off work. So, I think here is the best option.

Yes, I was the one on TV. Make sure you tell him you saw the segment. I am sure he would like to see the feedback.

This has been an emotional journey. I have no regrets. I also see Dr. Edwards tomorrow. I am thinking about having another adjustment.

I also researched other doctors and other cities, however, I am glad to have my doctor being in town. There is so much more to it than the surgery. The aftercare is crucial.

Read as much as you can about this surgery. You will have to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery - yes, you can do it. You also will have to wait 6 weeks before your first fill. So, it may seem like slow going, but it's worth it. I have lost 23 pounds since Feb 1st. I am on the slow side, but it looks like I am dieting, not that I had surgery. I hope to see you if Dr Edwards gets a lap-band support group going!

Good luck!

Thanks for responding so quickly. I wish it didn't take so long to actually get to the surgery part. I am a nurse and I don't take surgery of any kind lightly. So, when I actually decide to put myself through surgery I need to get it done soon before I change my mind. I never would have even started on this process if I hadn't seen the segment on the news. I don't know if I can do liquids for two weeks. I hope it doesn't have to be slimfast or something like that. That stuff makes me physically ill.

How do you feel physically now? We are supposed to go on a two week cruise the first of Oct. I'm wondering if I should post pone the cruise for a few months. I don't see how I could be ready for surgery before the end of May and then 6 weeks for a fill. Don't want to go on another cruise as a FAT person and definitely want to feel good.

Thanks for any info. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow and won't even know who you are.

Linda

Cathy,

Good luck to you! Who is your doctor in Mexico? I had considered Rumbaut, but decided to wait and do it closer to home. However, I am missing that $8000 that I would have saved. *laugh*

Hi,

I am new to the forum and live on the edge of Springfield. Have made a decision to have the procedure done before the end of the year and going to try to get past the exclusion on UHC first but if that doesn't work then outside the states is my other option. Would love to chat with anyone in my area who is going through this part of life, that is just begining for me.

Look forward to hearing from anyone.

Hi Nana

I lived in Battlefield when it was a handfull of houses and a whole lot of woods!! Have a friend that lives there now and I am not too far from you. How long has it taken you to get a surgery date? Are you self pay or insurance?

:)

Name is Kat by the way!!

So how much is the self pay for Dr. Edwards? Are you required to lose a certain amount before the surgery? I am only going to mess with the insurance for a a couple of months and then will go ahead and do finance. I have been undecided about this surgery for over a year and in the meantime have gained another 20 pounds. Now that I have made a decision to have surgery I don't want to put it off any longer than I have to. I am willing to jump the hoops if it will save me several thousand dollars but if it isn't going to happen as far as the insurance then I just want to get the surgery behind me. Would like to think this is my last summer in the current body!! UGH!!:phanvan

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
