Banded 9/26 On Liquid Diet But Starving

Recommended Posts

Ur noT doing anything wrong. It takes a week (or at least it did for me) to get used to ur new stomachs operations. I starved for three days before I drank 14 oz and was full and just drank my 8 oz after that 3 times a day and haven't been hungry since. I doubt its a recommended coursebut its what worked for me, and it only took once.

First- it isn't starving- you may have hunger pains, and often people really, after surgery, are thirsty but the mechanism between hunger and thirst is mixed up. Do not eat -this is a time for the stomach to rest, and recover from the operation. It is ok to drink a lot -

Hi this is my first post. I am Soooooo hungry. I have a Protein shake and 10 min later I'm starving. What am I doing wrong????

congrats on your surgery

not doing anything wrong, you are where the majority of your fellow banders have been

just keep sipping and sip some more and sip again, its important to keep your Protein as while you are

on liquids, this will be your food/fuel

stay positive and take care of yourself :)

I was just banded yesterday and am sometimes feeling very hungry as well. I am hoping the Protein Shakes and other liquids keep it under control. I hope I will get used to it somewhat because I have 5 weeks to go before my first fill. I totally understand your pain!! We can do it though!!

I'm really surprised to hear that people are hungry after surgery. I had so much gas pain (it felt like I had (a cow and piano on my chest) plus the pain at my incisions. My insides hurt. I didn't take any pain killers.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
