I just had mine yesterday. I'm told the needle feels like a bee sting, but I've never been stung by a bee. I'll just say that I never want to be stung by one either. OK, it smarted a little, but wasn't painful. My surgeon did not require a liquid diet the day before only fluids 2 hours prior to getting filled then soft food at night.

Good luck. You'll be fine :)

Hey Princess, I didn't have a fill but instead had air removed from my band after surgery. Its basically the same set up. I was super scared, for nothing, LOL

They put numbing gel on my belly, my surgeon found my port in seconds (what a relief), the needle went into the port (I felt a tiny prick, almost like when you get bloodwork), it was nothing, I really got myself all worked up for nothing. It was done super quick and painless!

Now, I can't tell you what a 'fill' feels like with the saline going in, so maybe someone else can explain that better

You are going to be just fine, .... ask for the numbing gel if they don't do it!

Wait...they put numbing gel on you? Uh, I didn't get that. What's up with that?

Seriously, don't worry. It wasn't painful, it was just a little sting like feeling. I was more scared than anything too. It'll be just fine, promise :)

Thank you ladies! Why did u have air removed?

air was trapped inside my band during surgery. Air usually is trapped outside the band or gets under the band when they do the stitching. Some air not a lot actually got into the band putting more pressure around my already swollen stomache, it was really a small amount.

I was stung by a bee yesterday and would rather have a band fill! Honestly a fill doesn't hurt unless the surgeon has difficulties accessing your port. My last fill, my port had tipped and the surgeon took two attempts to access my port. The second hurt because he said he hit the metal rim of the port first time and blunted the needle. Otherwise, no problems!

I got my first fill yesterday and it was a piece of cake! I was worried for nothing! The doctor put 2 cc's in. He did numb me so I didn't fill anything. No problems! Yay!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
