K so I have been doing really good on my pre op diet (-15 lb in 9 days) until today... I had a meeting and was starving and had a salad with ranch, I knew I shouldn't but I couldn't help myself plus I can only get myself to gulp down 1 Protein Shake per day? Has anyone cheated a little bit and still have a successful surgery? I go in 3 days and I don't plan on cheeting again but I can't help but feel guilty and worried? Help!

Different drs assign different diets so I don't think it will hurt. I was only liquid for 48 hours prior to surgery.

My dr didn't require a pre-op diet but had a strict post-op one

i had a really hard time with my pre-op diet. i followed the rules. but only lost 9 lbs of the 12 i was suppose to. my dr almost didn't do it. but he came in asked me what was going on and decided to still do the surgery and my liver was perfect! i don't think a little ranch will hurt you. it's actually a healthy fat unless you eat it by the gallon (gross) i think you will be great.

I think you will be fine, I was on 14 days of opti fast, day 1 had to have crackers because of nausia with the taste and smell. Figured out how to improve on that. I did have 1 other bad day due to my lack of planning, and had surgery yesterday. Too out of it to ask any questions, but surgeon did say everything went fine. Good luck to you.

Thank you guys sooo much! You made me feel a lot better! They told me I had to be very strict or I couldn't have my surgery! So hopefully everything goes well! Keep my fingers crossed!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
