Annoying Right Side Pain, Anyone Else Have This?

Recommended Posts

I was banded about 2 weeks ago and I am into the mushy/soft stage. I have been plagued with a chronic pain on my right side. It goes from just under my sternum over to my ribs. I cannot tell what it is, thought is might be gas, but it will not go away. Does anyone else have this pain? I have noticed it after eating. Maybe I am eating too fast or too much? I would appreciate any thoughts that you might want to share. Thank you.

Hello there! I was banded eleven days ago, and I had a similar pain on my right side wrapping around my ribcage. I also had some back pain as well right across my mid back. My port is on my right side, so I assumed the pain was due to whatever muscle manipulation the surgeon had to do to implant the port as I had some bruising on the right side as well. The pain is finally starting to subside, but there is certainly still some discomfort. I found that ice packs helped initially, although I haven't used them in a while. Best of luck. Hope you find some relief soon! Are you taking any pain meds?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
