Bread and Cake?

Recommended Posts

All

I'm prebanded, but trying to anticipate what things will be like post banding.

One of the MANY reasons I chose the band was the ability to eat normal, although much smaller, meals and the ability to eat most foods. And I know that there is no way I could never eat sugar again.

So my question has to do with what will be infrequent treats after banding. Cake is my all time favorite snack (almost always frosted). I was wondering that since so many people have problems eating bread, do people also have similar problems when they eat cake?

Thanks for your help!!

Thankfully, I have problems with cake. My baking specialty is cupcakes, but now if I want one, I have to eat it VERY slowly and in small bites. You probably won't have trouble with cake if you eat it with some tea or milk. But since drinking with the cake defeats the purpose of the band, I wouldn't use the cake as a Meal Replacement, just an occasional treat.

You can eat anything after banding, you wont have that dumping syndrome thing going on with sugar. I can eat bread and cake, and have done although I dont eat much cake anymore. I love muffins, lol. But it takes a lot of work to eat one, very careful eating and I find it's the slowness and carefullness of eating that makes a smaller amount of something like cake more satisfying - when I've spent 20 minutes getting one down, I'm not feeling like eating another one.

Also, you say goodbye to many of those foods with far less sadness than you think you will. I simply dont care about food so much anymore, its a source of nourishment and not much else. I enjoy it of course but I might walk past Muffin Break and think hmmm "cappucino? Muffin" and can now say "nah, not worth it".

I was really fearful of the changes I'd have to make until I realised that if I wanted to lose weight I had to make them, band or no band.

Part of the appeal that being banded held for me was all of the posts about no longer being able to eat breads without some trouble. I am a dough freak! I don't care about sweets.. give me dough in the form of breads, pastas, muffins, whatever! So, I told myself that I've had years of dough and looked like it too! Now I'm ready to go without dough and weigh 130 pounds! Yay baby!

i find since my third fill a couple of week's ago i can't eat chip's or bread roll's cake and bread[sliced] is not too bad if it's eaten very slow, so the band make's me satisfied with a whole lot less

I can eat toast. Dont really care for a muffin. Cake on the other hand I have no problem eating, I do have a problem with how long I will have to walk on the treadmill to combat the cake so I stay away from it as much as possible, for me it goes down way too easy.

For me, i cannot eat bread products....tried a croissant the other day and even had a really small bite and chewed really well it just seems to get stuck or expand in the pouch and i immediately start feeling bad.

I used to love bread ... it was my number 1 thing but i haven't had a single slice of bread since xmas.

I have other things now which keep me happy ... like losing weight

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
