Losing At A Snails Pace!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I had my surgery on March 27th. In the first 2 months I dropped like crazy...now I'm only losing like 2-3 lbs a MONTH! ugh! I'm watching my calories. I have a Myfitnesspal app on my phone that I use religiously. I'm taking in between 1000 and 1200 cal a day. IDK what to do. It's frustrating! My nutritionist suggested that maybe taking in MORE calories would help....that possibly my body was seeing what was happening as starvation. I tried this. Nothing. Last month when I went to the Doc I was 187....this month 184. UGH!! Any suggestions???

Try incorporating exercise with your balance diet. That will jump start your weight loss. Your body gets use to one thing after a while, so you have to keep it on its toes.

Because now your body is in the 'lower' weight percentile you will lose slow. This seems to be very normal reading through the threads with people who are in the same boat as you are. I honestly think you are doing marvelous! Besides your calories, have you been tracking your fat grams? Remember fat burns fuel. I just had to pump mine up because I was eating less than 15 grams and for someone my size I should be eating anywhere between 25-30 daily.

Yes, I believe you should go higher with your calories, maybe alternate the calories as a test, sometimes we have to trick our bodies in order to see any results. Maybe one day 1500 calories, then reduce it, etc..Can't hurt to try....

So much depends on if you are exercising? Not just walking, but truly exercising? You could be replacing fat with muscle which is good. But 3 lbs a month is good, not great, just good. I'm only losing 3-4 lbs a month now and I'd like to lose more but if I don't, I really don't care. I'm losing and not gaining.

What were your expectations? 3-6 lbs a month is pretty much all most of us accomplish so you're not far behind.

BTW-Early weight loss in the first 2 months is mostly Water loss. Do not judge your current or future weight loss on how well you did in the beginning. It's just not physically possible to lose 10 lbs of fat every month and even 6 lbs of fat is difficult.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
