Spasms at the port area?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery two weeks ago. All of the sudden, I am experiencing spasms where my port is. It usually occurs when I stand up after sitting. Has anyone else had this happen?

Wow.. I've been having muscle spasms this past week too! Right where the port is. Only I was banded on Jan 9th. Mine have been happening when I'm sitting. They aren't painful, and they aren't really fast like twitches. It's a slow tightening that holds for a second or two and then releases. No pattern to it at all, but very noticable when it happens. I forgot to ask my Dr about it when I saw him on Tuesday, but he did check the area really well (for hernias, swelling, etc) and everything was fine. Weird huh?

I get these too. I'm12 days out of surgery. In fact, if I have to laugh I hold that area or it just feels weird.

I got them for about 6 weeks post-op, mainly when laying down flat... they were very painful and lasted a long time...hence I actually slept in the recliner for a month and a half! Now I get them occasionally, especially if I've I've done alot of exta physical work that day or take a longer walk than usual. GOod thing is, they DO subside.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
