Had The Worst Stuck Episode Tonight

Recommended Posts

OMG I had the worst stuck episode tonight and is still going strong after 4 hrs. Broccoli of all things. Never had a problem with it before but tonight I was hungry around 10:00 so I microwaved a few bites of broccoli and let me tell you never again will I eat it. It has been most painful, I have thrown it up 4 times now, I have dry heaved, I fear of band slippage but can't keep a nausea pill down but keep throwing up. I am so sore. I tried hot tea, it came back up. Here it is almost 2:00 a.m. and I still feel sick. Don't know what to do.

sorry to hear...Ive never had blockage that bad I must be honest. Sometimes when I have blockage and I know it isnt going to stay Ill literally chug something carbonated so that it can come out with pressure. I wouldnt recommend that unless you are truly desperate and out of options...

I recommend you get some fill taken out..had you had a fill recently? was it too much perhaps?

Oh wow ......the feeling at the bottom of your throat may be swelling from all the vomiting. If you have thrown up 4 times I would think it is gone and you are now really irritated . Small sips of warm liquid like hot tea may help . But just don't try any more food today all liquids and softys tomorrow.

When I had really bad stucks I refluxed through my nose and mouth and could not lay down that is a bad stuck that means an unfill and the Dr. Good Luck I hope you feel better a lesson learned is a lesson learned..

Oh man sometimes I feel like I'm trying to swallow and it's stuck trying to go down I feel like I can't breath and I'm fighting against it. I was advised to stand up and lean forward and drink slow sipps of Water until it goes down and if it dont take glups the pressure of a large gll helps push down whats there and it's worked the two times it happened . It's such an uncomfortable felling . Just remember chew chew chew that's why I'm so afraid to add liquid to my band I still haven't been adjusted because I'm still learning and that feeling wAs scary . Good luck

Its miserable when that happens and I can only tell you what works for me. Yes, sip warm liquids, even Water. Not hot! And no caffeine....

I learned the hard way not to eat after dinner, or not long after. For me it doesn't move and my night is hell. If I just HAVE to eat late I go for a little bit of something totally smooth and only a little. But I try to avoid.

The day, or two or three sometimes are difficult because of the swelling and irritation from being sick, if you got much stomach acid up with a few hard wretches then its bad. Time to go liquid and slowly back to food or you will keep it irritated....

Good luck. I hope you feel better. And always remember to just give in and call the dr when there is any question!!!

Smiles.....

Same thing happen to me last Sunday, thought I was going to have to go to the ER but I knew if I did they would completely empty it, and there is no way I was going to start all over, once it gets irritated it will let you know! in the process of all this my daughter told me she wished she would have gotten a lapband when I did, I just looked at her and asked even after seeing me like this, she said "Absolutely"....really made me think and I also am going to try to get to some support group meetings, now that I am in the green zone I need a refresher course on the rules plus at the same time learning a few of my own, Glad you are ok, sure makes you wonder am I to tight or just need to be more careful, learning process for sure!

thank you for the post! I have absolutely no idea if I'm in the green zone, duh! I do know that I get hungry, I mean hunger pains about every 4 to 5 hrs and have to eat. I stay up late so around 10 or 11:00 at night I'm hungry so last night instead of shooting for Protein, I decided to eat leftover broccoli from Red Lobster and of course there was one of their biscuits in there too and I ate one pinch of that so I'm not sure if it was that or the broccoli but the broccoli kept coming up in clumps when I would throw up. I was like gosh I didn't eat that much! lol.but it kept coming up. I have eaten soft foods today. It is a learning curve for me still as I'm only 3 months post so I'm still learning what I can eat and still remembering to chew chew chew. I will say I would do it all over again!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
