This never happened to me, but my surgery did not require a catheter, so I'm assuming that anything else going on in that area would be left alone too. If you wear tampons, I would think it would not be an issue at all as they aren't doing anything in that area.

The other thread indicated that this was not a problem for others. You should call the Pre-op nurse just to be sure. It sure would be a disappointment for you to get up in the am, go to the center, only to learn that you will have to wait 3-5 days until your Aunt Flo retreats.

They wont let you use a tampon during surgery but they'll let you use a pad, I was allowed to wear undies as long as they were cotton.

its happened to me before, when I had my wisdom teeth out, I told the admissions nurse, she gave me a ginormous pad that looked more like a loaf of bread and a pair of those gorgeous mesh knickers they give you after you have a baby. All sterile and new out of the pack for surgery.

The danger of a tampon is that if something should go wrong with the surgery and they didnt know it was there, it could be left there.

Happened to me just a few months ago. Not a problem at all. I asked the doctor and he said to stick with tampons because it will be more comfortable immediately post surgery.

Oh sorry, I just saw Jacqui's message. I gave my doctor the heads up the day before surgery that I had my period and confirmed that tampons were ok. Like I said, he actually suggested it because it's much "cleaner" and less "odorous" and stuff because you probably won't shower until the next morning. I'd go with tampons personally. Good luck!

Most surgeon's won't let you wear a tampon. And most peope are cathed. I can't imagine someone not being cathed - they give you a lot fo Fluid in surgery and your bladder could literally explode or you would be incontinent all over the table. They take it out before you are awake, though.

Most places will let you wear a pad but you have to wear their awful mesh panties which are never big enough. The staff are used to it, though. Once you get up to use the bathroom the first time, put in a tampon and put on your undies and you will feel much better.

Hi,

maybe in Europe the practise is different but my doc told me that we must set a date when I wont have my period. He said it might be more complicated if I had a period. My guess is that it has to do something with the different blood structure or the blood density. I would definitely give them a call. Good luck to you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
