I am new to this forum and posting on threads. So forgive me if I ramble too much. I am having my Lap-Band surgery next Saturday, 9/8. I have to admit, I'm a wreck ( I'm not a very good patient). I started this journey to having surgery in October 2010. After doing a lot of research and thinking, I opted to try to lose my 150lbs on my own.....One.More.Time... I got myself started with a nutritionist and a personal trainer. Worked my butt off 6 days/week 2 hours/day. I was able to lose 40lbs and then just hit a roadblock. That roadblock turned into me, once again....feeling so defeated by my biggest nemisis, my body!! March of this year, I decided to restart my journey to surgery. I'm the heaviest I've EVER been (over 300lbs) and am so tired. It's time for a permanent change!! My process started in April of 2012 and I just got the call yesterday, my surgery was APPROVED by my insurance company!! *happy dance*

I just had my follow-up consult with my Doctor yesterday, signed my life away on paperwork and then was informed I would have to inject myself with blood thinner...YEA BY NEEDLE for 30 days post-op to prevent clots!! I'm a little apprehensive about that, but if its what I have to do, then so be it. Has anyone had similar situation?

Anyway, I'm happy to have found this forum and am looking forward to sharing and comparing our stories!!

I was told to stop asprin or Advil type meds1 0 days before so as not to have the blood so thin.

Congrats on your decision and the start of a journey that will be worth it in the end.

The Heparin injections after surgery are not uncommon and they are not painful. You will bruise VERY easy and at the injection site so you will have to alternate the sites but the needle is very tiny and doesn't hurt.

Good luck and just try to stay focused on the prize at the end...a new, healthier YOU!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
