Did Anyone Else Have A Cough Going Into Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I know I've posted this a few times, but I'm still sort of nervous....I'm scared they'll cancel my surgery on Monday.

I still feel a tickle in my lungs, but it's not productive. I just have an occasional cough.

Anyone else have surgery with a cough? Or anyone out there with asthma? I don't have asthma, but imagine that they would need to treat me the same way prior to the procedure....

I hope they don't postpone your surgery, it was hard enough to wait this long. I think i'd die if they postponed mine. well, now for some encouragement i think if it's just a dry cough you'll be alright. Make sure the cough medi! You want to get anything that's in there out... good luck my surgery is the 28th in Tijuana as well. I leave out monday...

i tried to say above that make sure your cough med is an expectorant not a suppressant... hit the return key....

I just talked to the doctor's office....they said they could give me a nebulizer or something along those lines and then see if it helps. They didn't make it sound like it was a deal-breaker (whew!).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
