List Of Items I Need Post-Op?

Recommended Posts

I have been seeing lists everywhere for what I will possibly need after surgery. Can you tell me what will be useful?

Carolinagirl nailed it. The only thing I would add is fill your scripts from your doctor and get some GasX just incase you need it, oh and a good book to read.

And a nice little pillow to press against your incisions if you have to cough or sneeze!

Good luck with your surgery...things that helped me where the GNC Protein lean shakes...love them! sugar free ice pops...I also needed Prevacid for the burning from the surgery in my throat. The pillow is essential as well to help you sleep. Try to keep a positive open mind too and take things slow. Small walks help throughout the day! Good Luck!!

I vote for the PILLOW!!! you will only be able to eat/drink little sips of anything anyway.... so get the pillow!!!

I would also add a small travel pillow to your let so you can use it to support your stomach the first week when getting up/down or sleeping in bed.

Did anyone have a problem finding a Protein shake you liked? i m on day two of my liver reduction diet and i can't seem to drink the stuff..

Yes. I finally settled on one I could tolerate- Premier Protein from costco or sam's club. I do occasionally buy new powders to try, but have relinquished myself to the fact I will probably not find a powder I love.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
