What Do You Do When Your Band Is Full?

Recommended Posts

Hi all- i am new here and was reading threads and started to wonder what people do once their band is full. I have an empty 4cc band, so it takes less to fill, and I started worrying if I eventually fill it up, what will I do? Sorry if this is a dumb question! Naturally, I am worrying about something far off in the future.

Generally most bands never need to be filled to capacity. There are a few exceptions ( normally Realize bands that can be overfilled) but for the majority of us this is not an issue. You should be able to achieve the green zone before your band is full. In fact the closer it gets to full the more likely your band is to be too tight and having a too tight band is not fun.

I assume that you must have been banded in Mexico as the 4cc is an old band that is not in general use any more, is that correct? Most people that have the 4cc band actually seem to reach their green zone quicker and easier than a lot of us with the newer larger capacity bands.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I was banded in Mexico on August 18th. I started reading and realized other people's bands are much bigger than mine. Hopefully the quicker restriction is the only difference. I also read that my band does not have the unlock feature. It makes me feel better that it is not usual for a complete fill. :) thank you!

What is the unlock feature?

Also wondering what the unlock feature is. A quick google search yielded nothing...

My understanding from what I saw was that it is an unlock feature in case it slips, it can be unlocked and locked again in the proper position. It looks like the older ones are more difficult to reposition if they slip. I googled lapband unlock. It brought me to some places where it was discussed and the allergen information sheet that shows how to unlock it if slipped. Clearly for a surgeon and not us. Ha ha!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
