I was so bummed when I got on the computer at midnight, hoping to hear from Diane, and there was no new news. I don't know, I feel so bad. It sounds like such a painful and scary condition. I'll just continue to pray that whatever it is is being fixed painlessly...

Sounds like you have acid reflux. I had slippage and the only symptoms I had was the spitting up the black tar with really bad acid reflux. Please call you doctor and demand to get in immediately! I will pray for you!

Take care, Brenda

I'm much worse today!!! The burning in my throat never went away. I can't even keep liquids down. I am choking on a popsicle right now. I have a terrible pain at my band area & was up all night. I threw up black tar. (I didn't eat ANYTHING!!) These are not good signs!! I've got a call into the doctor. I'll let you know what I find out. :paranoid

I'm a little scared. After having no complications for 8 months - I now have this!!!

I live in AZ & traveled to Tijuana to see Dr. Ortiz who is my doctor. It was a 6 hr. drive. But, I am back home & happy!!!

First of all, I just have to tell you that MY BAND HAS NOT SLIPPED!! :) I was very scared that it had because I had all the symptoms of slippage. When the Dr. looked at my band under flouroscope, we saw that my stomach & esophagus were very swollen. Apparently, I had a blockage at the band area that caused everything to swell & then bleed. It bled into my stomach which was the black tar I threw up. The swelling & throwing up caused severe Reflux. The terrible pain I was feeling was the pressure from my band around my swollen stomach.

The doctor took out all the Fluid in my band & I was able to drink water!!! Up to that point, I was able to get only a few sips down at a time & it wasn't enough to keep my hydrated. I was feeling very weak!! It was wonderful to drink a whole cup of water!!!

My doctor told me to be on liquids for 3 days & to take Acid Reflux medicine 3x a day. He filled my band half way & then wanted to monitor me to make sure I was fine. I drank a shake & some chicken broth without any problems!! He gave me the okay.

One of the last things I had eaten before all these problems started was a Hot Dog. The doctor said that he has had a lot of people come in with similar Hot Dog stories. I can gaurantee you I will NOT be eating another hot dog.

The good news is that through this whole ordeal I lost 5 lbs!!! I do not reccomend this form of weight loss, however; I will take the 5 lb. loss!!

Thanks for all the concerns!! I feel very special knowing that I had so many people waiting for me to share what happened!! You all are WONDERFUL!!!

Diane,

I'm so glad to hear your band wasn't slipped. After reading through the posts and especially about the black tar vomit, I was really concerned. A slip wasn't my first idea when I read it, but I'll remember that symptom for future reference. :nerd:

I'll also remember the hot dog. Man.....Scary! :):)

Diane, I'm so glad everything worked out okay! I'll never touch a hotdog again. Probably not a big nutritional loss anyways, lol.

Oh, I am so glad for you! I was scared you had slippage as that is what I had, the black tar with acid reflux, when I had slippage. The Good Lord above is watching out for you and your band! I will continue praying the swelling and inflammation get better soon. Take care of yourself!

Diane, what good news! This sounds very much like what I had, in fact, with a lot of the same symptoms. You'll feel MUCH better once the medication kicks in. Take it VERY easy as you eat solid food again.

So glad you're better!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
