Blockage... Help

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am new to this blog but have been banded around 4 years ago. I had complications from the very beginning as it wasn't positioned right... I was always vommiting which resulted in a slip. I was banded again June last year and have only now gotten to a stage where I feel restricted. I have 6.25ml in the band.

I am blocked for the first time ever! 2 nights ago I had some salmon and don't think it went down well. The next day I couldn't drink much without bringing it up and today, I was ok had a coffee in the morning 600ml Water and some pineapple juice as I've heard this helps. I'm not going in till Monday as I had a scheduled app anyway as my doc wants to see me anyway.

Is there anything to help the block !! Pls any help will be appreciated. I've been having small sips of hot Water with lemon bit would low if anyone else had any other tips !! Please help!!

Try hot tea- Decaf is best. Sip a tsp at a time. Don't try to eat food- stay on liquids. You may need to go for unfill if it doesn't pass soon! Some people say papaya enzyme but I've never tried it.

If you ate two nights ago, and you've brought up food/water since then, you are not blocked. You have likely irritated your stomach and caused swelling. I'd go on fluids for at least 24 hours to let it calm.

If it continues, get into your surgeon immediately. You don't want to risk a slip.

Try sucking crushed ice, it helps to reduce swelling and if there is something still there it may help to move it.

I'll try that thanks for your help !! I appreciate it..

Does anyone know how long it takes for swelling to go down? I'm starting to think that's the problem :(

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
