3 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

Well I had my band put in on Wednesday, Aug 8th. Its now Saturday, Aug 11th and I am doing okay. I came home on Thursday so today is my 2nd full day being home.

I have noticed a significant decrease in the amount of pain I had originally. I feel like the more I get up and move around and push myself just a little more the better I feel.

I would like to say I wasn't expecting some of the side affects though. Not sure if everyone else experienced these things or if I should be concerned but it seems like it should be normal. Basically I have been dealing with diarrhea like stools just shortly after I eat... I do believe that its called dumping syndrome and I am not sure if its like that because I am still in the all liquid diet or what but it hasn't been fun. I did realize that I had been drinking my Water at the same time as my Protein shake & Jello and I am hoping by stopping that it will help improve that. If not I am calling the office on Monday to make sure its not a complication.

I will say over all though I feel pretty good and I am still happy with my decision!

I'm only one day ahead of you. I had diarrhea really bad yesterday and I feel confident it was from the Jello. I was eating a fair amount of sf jello and too much of the artificial sweeteners can cause loose stools. I scaled way back on the jello and it cleared right up. Maybe try that? Good luck!

I was only eating a half cup for lunch and that was all. I actually haven't been too hungry and only had my 4 oz of Protein shake in the morning and at night and my half cup of Jello in the afternoon. I really think its because I was drinking Water at the same time... last night when I took that out of the equation I seemed to do just fine. Thanks though & good luck on your journey as well.

I don't think dumping syndrome happens with band but I could be wrong. Your body has gone through major surgery, anesthesia, and you have been on liquid. Good luck and remember this is a journey. You may not feel a lot different until your fills. Just stay informed and follow the rules:)

I was kind of thinking the liquid in liquid out thing actually... that's why I wanted to get some opinions. Today has been a much better day... I haven't had to take the med so regularly and feel pretty good. I am having a hard time fitting in all the drinking I am supposed to do. With the "no drink 30 minutes before and after" rule, then trying to drink the Protein shake, eat some Jello, maybe broth, more Protein Shake... napping (from the medicine) I just feel like my day has gone by & I have barely made it anywhere with my Water. I am trying but I am struggling.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
