What Happens At The Learning Session?

Your doctor's office has a list of things/sessions/classes to fulfill. I recommend you getting a schedule of what is next. The reason I'm saying this is my docotr's office only has 1 weight reduction seminar a monthe, then you must wait other 30 days before it is available. There will be a nutrition class by a dietian and then your docotr might have a seminar discussing the procedure.

If your doctor has a web page all this information is probably on his page and you will know when the seesions are ahead of time. Some of mine I would have to drive 1 hour away if I missed it locally. And its hard to determine what you will find out at a learning session since all doctors are different in how they approach weight reduction.

Best Wishes

Yes the doctors office requires you to attend this prior to making an appointment with the surgeon. I was just curious of what happens next and how soon etc. How are you feeling?

Depending on your insurance requirements and the requirements of the surgeon, you will complete pre-op testing (usually a psychologist visit, physical therapist, nutrititional evaluation, metabolic testing, complete blood tests, sleep study, etc).

Some insurance companies require a 3-6 month diet. Some require a list of all diets you've ever tried with corresponding time frames and weight lost. It really can vary.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
