Tricare Requirements...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie & I would like to ask a few questions. I have Tricare West/ standard & would like to know roughly how much out of pocket to expect? Also, is Tricare pretty tough to work with? Getting anxious & I meet with the surgeon monday! Thank you.

I had triwest prime when I had mine done. I didnt do anything special but I did provide for the Dr in the paperwork all the different ways and times I tried to lose weight and everything else that was wrong like pcos, high blood pressure and such. It was very easy and fast for me. As for out of pocket for standard, I dont know. Im standard now and pregnant and triwest told me I would owe co-pays and hospital fees and such. When my Dr filed everything I ended up paying nothing so I dont know how standard does things.

Good luck, I found tricare to be very easy.

I am TriCare standard in VA. If you search Tricare here you should find the info I listed. Three yrs ago, I had to show 5 yrs of weight loss efforts and the required test and got approval first time.

Thanks for the link, Carolina girl! Did you have a Dr. that was in network? The surgeon I want is out of network. Were you an outpatient? Sorry, I have a ton of questions & I'm so nervous about getting approved! Thanks so much!

Awesome! How do you like having the Lap band? How did you feel after surgery?

I love having a band, especially now that I have restriction. I am learning again, but it is wonderful. I was an overnight, TriCare required it; and I had an onboard pain med system for about 2 days. I was able to go out that night and the rest of the week. Worse thing is the gas from surgery, it can rally be painfull without warning. My life is so much better, and the healing was simple. The journey can be trying, but the joy of helping yourself is unbeliveable. I did this at 51 and I can't believe all the years I wasted being morbidly obese and sitting on the sidelines of life.

That's great! How long did it take you to get the restriction? Have you had any 'stuck' episodes? They sound frightening... BUT, I'm so ready to start living!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
