Need To Know If This Is Normal.

Recommended Posts

I was banded July 25th and since then have lost 13 pounds. I'm glad that I've lost weight but I haven't list any weight in 4 days, I seem to be stuck at this weight. I only take in about 500 cals a day and I exercise 3-4 times a week.

Since I'm newly post op with an empty band I'm hoping this is normal. I'm on stage 2 of.my diet and start stage 3 on Tuesday. I'm taking in a minimum of 50g of Protein a day but usually average around 60 g, and I'm drinking a minimum of 50 oz of Water a day.

Just want to know if this is normal? I'm hoping I continue to lose weight!!! I'm not necessarily discouraged, but I want to know that its normal!!

Thanks,

-Melissa M.

Sounds like you are doing great! You won't continue to lose the weight as fast as we do at the beginning. My surgeon says it will be about 2 lbs a week. You are off to a good start and seem right on track. How is your hunger? Are you feeling satisfied?

Thanks, I appreciate that, but last Tuesday I weighed myself and its the same weight as today. Hopefully by Tuesday it will be another pound or so.

My hunger has its ups and downs. Like today, I couldn't care to eat...had to force myself to get some food in. But then yesterday I was craving tons and tons of stuff and all I wanted was a grilled chicken breast. Lol. I've noticed that I can eat a bit more food because everything isn't swollen inside anymore, which stinks.

Hopefully my first fill will kick things up a bit. I'm not sure though, I'm just hoping :(

I don't think you're getting enough calories. From what I understand your body will hold onto weight if it doesn't have enough calories to burn so that could be the issue.

Eat a little bit more. Your body is like an engine and needs fuel to operate. But your body is a very efficient engine and if you are not putting in enough fuel, it thinks you are going to continue that way so it works very hard to preserve what reserves it has - and you don't lose weight.

I realise that it goes against the grain of all logic but give it a go for a week or so.

I agree with Looze. I've been on this program since march, pre op diet day 5. And even the dic said. "if you don't take in enough food, the body goes into survival mode..storing the fat instead of shedding" jus my opinion. Good luck-!!!

Same boat, banded same day, same weight loss, same problem.

I am absolutely struggling to get more than 600 calories a day.

Although I was considering my lack of weight loss to be because of my complete inability to do number 2. Sorry to be so open, but is this common too?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
