Unfill For Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am getting 2 cc's put in my band tomorrow at my first fill appt. I am having some other physical issues and most likely will have to have a surgery under general anesthesia in the next month. Is it true that everyone who has surgery has to get a complete unfill first? I hate to go to all that work getting a few fills only to have to have them unfilled.

My Lap-Band Dr. is 2 hrs away so time/money in driving there is also a factor.

Thanks,

Laura

I will be having surgery to remove my gallbladder under general anesthesia in a couple of weeks. I have already asked both my bariatric surgeon and the general surgeon who will do the procedure if I will need to have my band unfilled, and both surgeons said no...

There are differing opinions between physicians on just about everything...this is apparently another example.

I recently had a Tummy Tuck AND breast reduction. I was at 7.6cc in my 10cc band and my bariatric surgeon and the plastic surgeon said no need to unfill. I am sooooo grateful for that because it seems like people who are already in the green zone and then unfill never get the same restriction they previously had.

I had my gallbladder removed and did not need to have my fill removed.

I was told you really only need to get a bit unfilled if you are on the tight side.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
