Six Days Post Op With Complications

Recommended Posts

Ok so here's my problem ... I was banded on July 25, was only expected to stay overnight, but because of breathing complications I am still in the hospital...they have had me on diet Jello and clear juice the past 5 days, but the Protein gel they give me to add is really bad! Do I haven't been using it and feel like I'm not gettin my nutrition I need ! I have asked to see the nutrionist, but haven't yet..... When can I at least have some pudding or yogurt? I had a barium swallow yesterday, and everything with my band is great.

when i had my surgery, i also stayed overnight. i was giving clear broth and Jello ONLY. its a clear liquid diet it sounds like. if you were not getting enough Protein, i am sure they would do something about it. keep asking. (and yes, protein is gosh awful but take it because YOU need it.)

all the best and hang in there.

I was on Clear liquids for the first 2 weeks after surgery. It goes to show how greatly different surgeon's post op diet plans are. Mine was super strict.

Stick with whatever they give you for food. You have issues to contend with beyond your healing tummy that you don't need to risk messing with. You'll be home and progressing on your post op diet very soon I'm sure.

I hope you feel better soon.

P.S.- do you have asthma by chance? sleep apenea? or smoke? 6 days seems like a long hospital stay. I was just curious if there was a pre-existing condition at play.

No pre existing condition... Don't wanna scare anyone, but I had a spasm on my throat when they tried to pull my tube after surgery.... My lungs filled with Fluid and have been working on drying them out ever since... Thanks for your thoughts

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
