Can Anyone Else Feel There Port Hit On Their Ribs When The Move Around?

Recommended Posts

ok so yeah i may be a little paranoid... but I am soo afreaid of messing up this oppertunity by overlooking petential problems. I am wondering if anyone else can feel their port being bumped or flicked against by their ribs? like when I bend at the waist, or stand from sitting. It almost feels like my ribs become stuck under it. So I guess my concern is about flipping my port. I am worried this will happen if I move wrong. Does anyone else have this issue? my port is about 2in left & 3 in above my navel.

I can feel it hit my ribs when I am lying in bed on my side or stomach and sometimes when I bend. I have my first follow-up tomorrow so I'll try and remember to ask :)

Call your doc about flipping. My first port was very intrusive. I had to have revision surgery for a different reason and my doc put in a new smaller port. Much better.

I sometimes have it hit too, I go to doc tomorrow myself and will ask then. I have not had a fill yet, hopefully tomorrow.. but I was wondering the same thing!

My port is now sticks out quite obviously, just under my ribs on the left and I have felt it move around often almost as if it is somtimes caught under/over my ribs, I can move it with my stomach muscles. I can also feel it if I lie on my stomach, so I don't sleep like that anymore.

I had a barium x-ray recently (for other reasons) and this confirmed that everything is ok with my port, so the dr said.

He also told me that I could have it moved to somewhere less obvious (no idea exactly where he meant!) under a local anesthetic, but I'm not sure that I can really be bothered. I'm pretty sure no one notices it but me.

so how big is your new port?

I guess it's about 1" diameter? It seems thinner too. My first port was really uncomfortable, especially during "intimate" times (sex). I am so glad I had it replaced before I got preggers because I think it would have been really painful. As a self pay patient, I was really reluctant to have a second surgery just for "comfort" but then my band stopped holding its fill so I had to. He also moved it to a more comfy spot. I almost never feel it now unless I'm looking.

i forgot to ask' date=' where is the old/ new location of your port?[/quote']

It's been a few years but I thin my old port was closer to my lower rib on the right. Now it's a bit lower. Does that make sense?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
