A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Recommended Posts

This is a great place, but if you want more/different support on the same topic, check out ExtraordinaryBandsters@yahoogroups.com Some of the same people, many different, all started with BMI over 50, some up into the 90s.

Dan, How do you get on this list? I have tried a couple of times and it comes back that it was denied due to no response from the list owner. I would love to join that group.

I've tried as well, three times to be exact, and I get the same thing. Denied for no response from the list owner.

I figured whoever ran it got tired of it and the group died out. Now that I hear it's a great group, I'm pretty pissed that no one is responding to these requests to join!

I had the same issue, I tried, but never heard back.

Dan - Do you have some pull with the administrator?

I found this page; it looks to be fairly new. I put in a request and was accepted as a "friend" right away.

I live in League City, Tx and this is the doctor I found on the web site that I plan on using. What was your experience? How much weight have you lost? I need to loose 60-65 lbs to be at my goal weight. I am now at 212

Well, if the group owner has gone away and doesn't confirm you to join (since you have to tell them your weight and BMI to get added) you're out of luck. If someone abandons a yahoo group, it just goes along by itself. And no way will yahoo tell you who the manager is (though sometimes you can figure it out by looking through ancient emails) nor will they turn it over to someone else. I understand that from yahoo, but is still a pain.

I'll see if I can get anyone to wake up over there.

Brenda - if you do a search by the physicians name you should be able to find if there are any posts about him/her. I think there is also a forum to discuss doctors.

Hi!

My name is Debra and I live in Webster. I used Dr. Spivak in Houston. I had my surgery on April 27, 2007. This is all new to me, but I'm learning. Still figuring out what I can eat and what I can't eat. So far I've lost 20#...WooHoo! My doctor and his staff are great! Contact me any time and we can learn together.

WELCOME WELCOME!!!!!!!!!

Debra- do you still have the restriction from swelling, or are you really hungry... for your first fill like I am? I was banded on 4-2-07!! My first fill will be on 5-17-07. I can't wait! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY!

Thanks Maziemommy!

I have a lot of restriction and have to be very careful about what I eat or I get that balled-up pain in my back and tummy.

Take care...

Hi Folks, I'm Wendi from Salt Lake City, Utah (Go Jazz!!!). I'm so glad I found this thread. It's a great idea! My banding is on the 17th (in full swing on the pre-op diet now...it's awful, as I'm sure most of you know!!). So far I've lost about 17 pounds on my pre-op and pre-pre-op diets. That leaves with a little under 200 lbs to go after surgery. Wow, what a challenge! I think that's the first time I've ever written it down. I usually just think in general terms of "losing weight" not those kid of specifics. Heck, I just barely told my husband and my therapist what I weigh, now only they and my doctor know. I guess its all baby steps when the goal is this big. Anyway, it's a pleasure to meet all of you and I really appreciate knowing the support is here. ;)

I totally undrestand. I've never let myself think about HOW overweight I am. I have 223 to lose to reach my goal...it's insane. I look back and wonder why I never stopped myself from eating...Of course, this is an addiction...and this is how I have come to be banded. (Praying my insurance pulls through for me soon!)

Good luck to you!

It can be daunting. I just look at minigoals. I was so excited when I lost to the point that I had less than 200 to lose. And I put it on a pound at a time so I try to keep my mind at taking it off a pound at a time instead of trying to wrap my head around the entirety of what I have to lose.

By the time I'm at goal I will have lost 250 lbs If I look at the big number I would just go in my room and never come out, I focus on 10lbs at a time. I have about only 70lbs to go!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
