Lap-Band Or Realize Band?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have the option to get the Lap-Band or the Realize Band. The cost would be the same.

Can anyone shed some light on why they would choose one over the other?

Initially they seem to be identical.

thanks.

I asked my surgeon which he would use, and he simply said "well, honestly it's whatever I feel like that day and the OR has on hand". He asked if I had a preference, and after researching them both and realizing it was comparing apples to apples, I let him chose. He explained he didn't notice any difference success wise, but that the Realize band's port is slightly easier to access and slightly less likely to flip.

On the day of surgery, he said he was going to use the Realize band. It was aye-okay with me.

I read its the fill pouch that is different with the lapland it has indents so it is smooth when wrapped around your stomach but the realize band is one tube so it can pinch when around your stomach. Look on youtube it shows you

I had to select between the 2 on my pre-op paperwork.

Dr said they were about the same but that Realize had a really good website (that they discontinued in June 2012) and its parent was Johnson & Johnson, an American company.

For what its worth....

I didn't have an option my doctor only does lap band. I'm very pleased with mine. I have heard some people with the realize band mention that the realize band is more forgiving with foods.

I had the lap band and after 1 yr it broke (not my fault). I had to have revision surgery and I had been self pay. Allergan actually told me that the package said it had no guarantee! So we had to save and pay for revision surgery. I gained back about 60lbs. Anyway, a friend's realize band broke and they paid to fix it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
