Dr. Marina Kurian - Dr. Kurian in New York City

I've been hanging around lapband boards for a couple of years, and have heard only positive things about her.

Hi,

Dr. Kurian did my lap band on Dec. 29th of 2003. If I had it to do again, I would choose her because she is a very skilled and confident surgeon. I even travel from Phila. to NYC to see her monthly. I have been disappointed in the post care because she is not big on bedside manner, and I always feel like I am rushed out of her office. However, like I said, surgery skills and experience are much higher on my list than bedside manner. And, after all, I have all of my band buddies here who have been so very kind and helpful to compensate! I did lots of research, and I chose her.

thanks for your response.

i think that her coolness

in my intial visit was a bit

offputting but her confidence was

reassuring.

i would love to compare notes with you

when and if i get closer.

I have not yet gone to Dr. K, but understand that she is one of the best. My girlfriend had her lapband done by Dr. Kurian and she is doing great. This doctor had the compassion and understanding, not to mention dedication for her patients. I plan on visiting her in the summer to further discuss having this procedure. My emails to her have been direct and fast, and she answers you quickly.

My surgery was done by Dr. Kurian. I love her. She is very to the point, but once you get to know her a bit, she is very warm and friendly. She doesn't take any crap or excuses though. ;) I have the utmost confidence in her surgical ability, and really like her as a person. The only con is that her office is quite busy and she often gets swamped with patients, resulting in a short visit. She will most definitely take her time with you if you're having a problem though.

Good luck! I haven't been around here in a while, or I would have posted about her sooner.

The only info I have on her is second hand. My friend had her and had Lapband, lapband+plication, sleeve and now total gastrectomy with RNY due to the damage from the cumulative damage from all these surgeries. She has a picc line and tube feeding is being considered as her esophagus was damaged from the three previous surgeries. It's seems that Dr K didn't consider that her pt wasn't a candidate for high pressure wls and kept operating on her despite the complications she was having.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
