Banded A Week Ago -- No Appetite!!

Recommended Posts

I literally force myself to eat because I have NO APPETITE :-(

I take my Multivitamin, drink my Protein Shakes, take my Calcium but I really don't have taste for anything else.

When will my appetite reappear??

Wow, that's great news. You can't gain any weight in this condition. And I believe you don't have any restrictions so far. I found the Protein Shakes fulfill a hunger pain for a long time. Best wishes on your recoveries. My band date is Aug. 6.

You will be fine as long as you take in your fluids. I had no appetite either. But, try to take in some nourishment. I know they say sugar free, but, I think that you should or could drink some Gatorade or the like. Best wishes. Karen

I actually CAME to this forum because I'm NOT hungry and it was freaking me out! My team generally has been amazing in the 7 month journey to having the surgery, but I wasn't ready for this. Two things have me kind of freaked out.

1. I'm not hungry at all. Like...at...all. I expected to have the same hunger response, just with a different capacity. Having my hunger response totally disappear kind of knocked me for a loop.

2. I'm having problems telling if I'm full. I haven't vomited or felt nauseated once. I feel kind of lost when it comes to knowing how much to drink and eat at one time during this time of fluids only because I feel no fullness and don't understand or have any clear boundaries with my band (outside of the literature I've been given post-operatively).

Basically I feel like I've eaten about an hour ago, all the time since surgery (my surgery was on 7-20-2012).

Most people see their appetite reappear in 2-3 weeks. Mine came back in 3 days. There are a very small amount of patients on here whose appetite never really returns. Unfortunately, most do not experience this.

Mine came back with a vengeance after 2 weeks. Since my fill, if I eat right, I can keep the hunger at bay for a good stretch.

I'm having a hard time even getting in my required liquids. I was doing awful on the Clear Liquids do they put me on full liquids a little sooner than normal but I'm still struggling. Even before surgery I was not a big drinker... I never drank a bottle of Water a day. Now, I'm finding it sooo hard to drink but thats my main nourishment but I'm not hungry in the least. I also really hate all the Protein Drinks I've tried so that's a challenge as well. I just don't know what to do!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
