Potential Problem...

Recommended Posts

When I was banded it was empty and I went in for my first fill about 2 weeks ago. She put in 6ccs and I never felt any different at all. I have heard it takes a couple of fills before you have restriction, but I guess I just assumed I would have felt something. I let it go until last night...I was putting some lotion on my scars and for the first time I actually could feel my port (both grossed out and excited at the same time since apparently that means I have lost some fat in that area). Problem is, when I got my fill, it was about 3 inches lower than where I feel my port now. I am assuming it doesn't move around, so is it possible that the saline was just injected into my body and not my port? Seems a little far-fetched since I go to a specialty center that does this all day every day but I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences.

Talk to your Doctor, but my doc said the port will move as you lose weight.

I can only speak from personal experience, but when my surgeon goes to do a fill, he injects a small amount then pulls it back out. He explained that he does that in order to ensure he's in the port; if he pulls back and nothing comes back, he's not in. When it comes back out, he finishes injecting the rest.

Do you remember, did your doctor do this? It wouldn't hurt to give them a call just to double-check.

I asked my surgeon how they know they injected the saline in the port. He said otherwise you will feel a burning sensation.

My port scar is a couple inches from where my Dr puts the needle in. The first fill I was puzzled as to why he was so low. He must have had it right since he too takes the Fluid out and puts it back in to make sure he's in the right place. They deal with several bands all day long but if you are concerned I would ask them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
