Never Before!

Recommended Posts

I was banded 6/28 and now that I am feeling better I am always thinking about what exercise I am going to do when I get home from work. I have never been the one to jump on the treadmill or ride my bike, but now I am starting to like it and fitting it into my daily routine :)

Isn't that a great feeling! I was JUST thinking this morning about how I couldn't wait to get off work at hit this new trail that I found yesterday and go jogging. Then I thought - WHAT?! The Jen of 3 months ago would NOT be excited for that! I do something active every day, and it's become such habit that when I had to miss a few days last week (tonsillitis), I felt 10x more terrible. The first thing I did as soon as my fever was gone was slip on my running shoes and hit the pavement.

You guys are great inspiration. I hate exercise and simply dread it. I have a big trip coming up though so maybe it will be my motivation to get started. Banded about 2 months ago and I still don't have an exercise routine. Uuuggghhh

I agree! I still have to force myself to exercise, but once I do, I feel amazing. It is a part of my life now.

Jolly - I don't have a routine per se. Mixing it up keeps me going. If I really don't feel like jogging outside, I'll do a training session with the Xbox Kinect. If that doesn't sound appealing, I'll put my iPod on and hit the elliptical. I seriously dislike gyms and organized exercise, so I find things to do on my own.

That's awesome! Routine definitely helps. I always tell people to try different things for variety, but if you've found something that you really enjoy and look forward to, stick with it! :D

Okay, so here's my speech: I was the same way! I hated, hated, HATED exercise and dreaded it. But I kept experimenting with new things until I found something I could tolerate (Wii Fit boxing), discovered something that I really didn't mind (cycling while listening to audiobooks), and then finally found something that I really enjoy (running with my wife).

There is so much out there that if you're determined and you're willing to try new things, eventually you can find something you not only don't hate, but that you like doing!

If only I had the money to spend on hockey equipment... ;)

I agree! I still have to force myself to exercise, but once I do, I feel amazing. It is a part of my life now.

Right before a serious workout, I really don't feel like doing it; during the workout, I want to die; but AFTER the workout, I feel like I can fly or something!

Once you get used to exercising, the reward can really drive you. Gotta love those endorphins! ;)

Thanks Brenty, today I did my first session of couch to 5k. It's not a lot but it's a start. I enjoy reading about others who have found a way to fit exercise in their life.

Today was my 6th day of walking 1/3 mile. But after dinner, I went for a 2nd lap. I'll pay for this tomorrow, but it was worth it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
