How Much Can I Drink And Eat?

Recommended Posts

hi, I am at Day 2 of post op. I am now unto the liquid stage. How much Water or Protein Shake can I drink at one time-- how long should it take me to finish a bottle? If I am eating Jello or Soup, how much can I have at one time? Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Take things slow. See how things go down. In the liquid stage I had 3 protien drinks a day. I didn't limit Water at all. You want to get at least 60 gms protien a day. I chose EAS because they have 20 g protien, and are low in fat. They also have carb control is you are looking to stick to a low carb diet. I get them at Walmart. You probably won't have problems, since your band is not filled. Don't be surprised is hunger creeps in in a few days. It's what's known as bandster hell. The time after surgery but before you get enough Fluid in your band to have restriction. Congrats on your surgery!

I had 3 Protein Shakes a day and three cups of stock (8 oz) for first 7 days. Second week I could have Soups like Tomato, Sweet red pepper. Most doctors do not want soups that have solids in them at this point. I made sure to use a coffee CUP and not a mug. Mugs are usually 12-16 oz.

EAS is a brand of premade protien shakes. I don't know what it stands for. I get them at Walmart. I have also seen the version with carbs at sams.

I just had my EAS Advantage shake this morning. French vanilla is my favorite. I'm not banded yet but I have been replacing Breakfast with it. It has 100 calories, 2.5 net carbs and 17g of Protein. I buy a pack of 4 from Walmart for $4.74 and I think they taste really good! I just noticed in small print on the carton that EAS stands for energy, athletics, strength. :D

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
