Recommended Posts

Carla, you do know about the two weeks of liquids after surgery, don't you? *grin* That's what the doc put my DW on. Then a week of mushies. He's a bit over cautious, but she hasn't had any problems.....

Lawd YES :) I Have not forgotten.....my is a week of clear liquid after..then s/f puddings the next week...then the next week mushies..etc...so I am aware of that but I guess I am hoping with my NEW tummy I wont feel as deprived.....

Thanks for the post...much kindness

Carla

Don't worry Carla, I'm on day 8 post-op and the liquid diet is plenty to keep you full. The hardest part is getting in enough Water and Protein. You're going to be fine, but I'll be thinking of you tomorrow just the same. Check back in and let us all know how you're doing.

Hi Girls!

I'm on day 18 today. Down 14 pounds. Like all of you, I was concerned about anesthesia, but all went smoothly. Be prepared...if you go to the surgicenter, they will be getting you up walking the MINUTE you wake up!!!:biggrin1: :biggrin1: They will hand you a bottled Water and you HAVE to drink it ALL. It will seem like a gallon at the time. Remember to have a pillow on surgery day-it will really help with the incision soreness.

If I had done a decent pre-op (LO-CAL) diet, I would've done much better than I did. So, although you think your doctor is Satan himself, it truly is for your best recovery. (I shook and sweated for days because of the shock to my body from a "normal" diet) Just remember that this phase is very, VERY short and, although somewhat uncomfortable (not really painful), it's short and it's best for your body's health while you're healing. THEN....life begins again with REAL food AND weight loss!!!!!!!!!

Don't be surprised if you wonder "did I make a huge mistake doing this?" a time or two during your first 3 days. But, don't fret, probably almost ALL of us felt that and now, on the other side, it's starting to get exciting about the REALISTIC HOPE of a healthy, happy life without a bunch of yucky weight to lug around and make us sick.

You will find your BEST support right here on LBT. Others who understand your ups and downs and have walked the road you're on!

I prayed about my decision to have the procedure. I prayed before and after. I pray daily that it will be a tool to a healthy lifestyle. I pray for willpower when I see a GIRL SCOUT! I also pray for all my friends here at LBT that have figuratively held my hands from day one.

God is GOOOOOOD...all the time. He will keep you safe in His arms and the power of His spirit will be with you while you're under too! Be of good cheer!!

Each of you keep us posted...we genuinely do care about each of you!

Nanster:rolleyes:

Hey everyone...I am home.. today is Saturday..I got out Wednesday in the p.m. and went to stay with my mom for a couple of days....she doesnt have interent so I couldnt post but I came home today I feel great.........Come to find out...I had a hiatial (spelling????) hernia that he had to repair as well so my surgery took about 1 and 1/2 hours to complete because of that....When they woke me up..I was very very very nauseated even though they had given lots of stuff to keep me from getting that way.....I was so sick to my tummy....finally the doctor ordered they give me some glucose (sugar water) through my IV and I immeditaly perked up and got to feeling better...I think that my stomach was so empty from not eating for 7 days before that it made me sick from all the anthesia (spelling?) so they got me up and walked me and released me about 30 minutes after that..I had a 2 1/2 car ride home and that was tough...real tough...I never wanted to be home so bad in all my life....I was near tears by the time I got there but once I got to my moms and rested and slept for a little bit..I got to feeling much much better.....That little hangy down thing that hangs in the back of your throat was very irritated and swollen from the tube they put down my throat and it made me feel like I was choking but it was better by this morning...still a little irritated..but better......

I have a couple of ?'s for post ops.....

When you are full....does it feel kind of tight in your chest area???? is that how you know?

Why does EVERYTHING have to be sugar free.....I know that this is to lose weight..but i was wondering if I could have a little sugar of some sort that it would give me some energy because at this time I have NONE!......just curious about that??is it because of weight loss or is there a medical reason?

Hey Carla!

Glad to hear you're all done and banded! That car ride home must've seemed like forever, especially any little bump!!

I personally felt like HELL for almost a full week. Not pain, but sugar/caffeine withdrawal and no energy from no food. The glucose IV they gave you indicates to me that your body type may be like mine and needs SOME sugar.

I was told on day 5, when I was about to ask to have the band removed, that sugar is okay during your 4 week post-op recovery. They just don't want you to overdo it and they don't want you to get into any new bad habits, like drinking milkshakes, etc that will come back to be hard to break once you start eating "real" food again. When I called and was about to pass out ALL THE TIME, they said have warm tea with 2tsp sugar or have some ice cream or a milkshake. (or even better put some ice cream into Carnation Instant Breakfast/milk and/or into some Ensure, Boost or an Atkins shake (if you can handle artificial sweetener...I can't tolerate it...it makes me turn red, get a Migraine and messes with my bladder) Once I started that, I started feeling SO much more human again!!:biggrin1: :biggrin1:

I was lucky that anesthesia didn't make me nauseated, but my sister-in-law has it anytime she's had anesthesia-for her, it's the worst part of any surgery.

They also suggested drinking a little coffee (if you're used to that) for caffeine. When you get past Protein Shakes only, try some Campbell's Beefy Mushroom Soup (blenderized, of course) mixed with some instant mashed potatoes, pretty liquidy....YUMMY! Someone here posted it and it actually makes you feel like you're getting something "WORTHY" of eating...like a meal. That, potato soup and egg drop soup pulled me through!

Some people eat "regular" food that they just put in a blender...I didn't, but appparently the doctors think it's fine. It's up to you. (looks gross but all tastes the same as before it was blenderized!!!)

Glad to hear you were at your mom's -- let her baby you a little and you not have to do anything significant except rest and heal. Please remember to do the same once you get home. Housework, etc. can wait til you're feeling more yourself again.

You MAY experience feelings of "what have I done?" and "I made a big mistake".....don't worry, we ALL did, from what I've seen on this sight. It WILL pass. You WILL get better almost every single day. You WILL be one of the ones posting to other newbies in no time!!!

God Bless You. You've made a commitment to take care of your body and have a healthier life in the future. You are on your way and the worst is surely over.

Drink Water, eat Protein. Rest. Heal. Pray. Read these posts. You'll be feeling better and looking GREAT real soon.

We're all here for you. Hang in there.

Nanster

Thanks so much for the post...you are so sweet...let me tell you what I had to eat today..

This a.m... My mom took some s/f Jello and mixed it with some cool whip- topped a little equal on it and that is what I had... it was 3 oz... after I ate that I was very full- had a feeling of pressure in my breast/chest area...so that is how I think I knew I was full...

20 min later I had a glass of Iced tea with splenda....

That is it...I have had nothing else...I feel so week and so hungry and NOT head hungry but I am hungry and weak......I am only supposed to be on Clear liquids but I wonder if I had a little ice cream or some egg drop Soup or something if it would hurt me????? I need something for some energy and soon...my belly is really nawing...... truly I am not even supposed to have Protein shakes right now only clear liquids! Help...I am to the point of TAKE THIS OUT TOO!...lol...NO not really...over all I am doing fine...I just need some energy and something to stop this belly from nawing me to death....that is enough to wear out someones nerves!

:help: Help post opies....I need some suggestions!

my liquids stage (first 24-48 hours) included cream of wheat, oatmeal, Protein shakes, any blenderized Soup, bananas, cooked veggies(stay away from the fibrous ones like celery and asparagus), blenderized chicken with some mayo, etc etc.

they called it the clear liquid stage, but the paperwork said it was liquid stage and described the above.

i have the tight feeling in my chest too. sometimes it occurs when i know i have no food in me. it reminds me of braxton-hicks contractions. no pain, just tightness...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
